Moses Cone Memorial Park is an estate located in Blowing Rock, North Carolina right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was built in 1901. The estate boasts 3,500 acres and has trails for everyone including horses. There’s also a 10,000 apple tree orchard on the property along with many other things to keep you occupied for the day.
It was girls weekend, we had fueled our bodies with coffee, a quick breakfast, and headed towards the manor.
The Bass Lake Trail is a loop around the Bass Lake and is 1-mile in length, however, parking is tight – we had to park on the side of the road. So including walking from the car, to the house, and then down to the actual trail, and then back again… we actually ended up doing roughly 4-miles in total.
This is a gravel trail the whole way, and is very easy with a few hills here and there. The surroundings are very peaceful and the Manor can be seen during your entire walk and appears to get smaller and smaller the further you get. We saw many horses, deer, butterflies, wholly worms, and all sorts of nature sightings on our walk. The mountains in the distance provide a sense of comfort, and the fresh mountain air is sure to elevate your spirit.
Moses Cone Memorial Park is a great day trip and only takes about 2-hours to get here from Winston Salem. I highly suggest getting yourself on the Blue Ridge Parkway and exploring this sometimes heavily crowded, but amazing gift of nature for us North Carolinian’s.
