If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to catch some scenic views during this lovely fall season, the Virginia Creeper Trail is your way.
It’s a 34-mile old railroad trail, now turned bike trail, and rated the BEST in the nation. The easiest ride starts at Whitetop Station and cruises down a 5% grade to Damascus (17 miles total). You can rent bikes and catch a shuttle offered in the towns of Abington, or Damascus Virginia and literally just cruise. It is relatively inexpensive, and an all day adventure so be sure to bring plenty of snacks and supplies!
Throughout the 17 miles, I may have pedaled the bicycle for a combined total of 20 minutes and that was just to reach lightening speed and outrace my Mother. 🙂 Another little tip is to dress warm, bring gloves, hats, and scarves, because it was quite windy the day we went, and cold.
This was a great day trip, and highly recommended in my book. Beautiful scenery, and the fall colors were great to look at.
Enjoy the snaps!
